The way a person starts their day sets the tone for the day. Picture two scenarios, you’re on your way to work and swing through Starbucks for a coffee on your way. Scenario one you grab your coffee and the lid isn’t on all the way and you drop and spill your hot coffee all over your lap. Scenario two you go to pay for your coffee and the barista tells you its been paid for, have a great day! Both happen in less than 5 minutes. Your first interactions of the day can send your day in two completely different directions. Start your work day in the best way possible. These 5 tips can make it happen in minutes.

  1. Make a 1-minute Game plan! Its important to have an idea of what your plan is for your day as well as give yourself a mini pep talk. Invest yourself with a goal of the day and a game for success. Even if the goal is small, it is hard to feel successful at the end of your day without accomplishment.
  2. Do a 1-minute tech check! A tech check takes as little as one minute and can save a life. The daily tech check is what deems the lift to be safe for the day. Technicians are looking for proper working safety locks, level lifting, and maintained lifting surfaces. These checks are what give the technicians and shop owners, or managers the everyday trust in their lifts to perform correctly and safely. Start your day off safe and check your lift!
  3. Take 1 minute to set yourself up for safety success. Set up your area with the proper safety precautions needed as well as making sure you have your water nearby. It is summer and that means temperatures are rising and a person needs to be more aware of drinking water. When things are busy at work it is easy to forget to drink so set yourself up for success and make your water accessible and right in your face, so it will be impossible to forget!
  4. Make 1-minute greetings! Relationships in the workplace are important to invest in as most people spend over half of their waking hours a week at work and because of that it is important to nurture the relationships at work and make your work place a positive environment. Taking a minute to greet your coworkers is one step closer to making a positive environment.
  5. Do a 1-minute wipe down! Often working in a shop can be a messy job. Taking a minute to clean your surfaces and equipment before starting work. This will really make the difference after a long-hard day. There’s something to be said about stepping into a clean environment. Your whole day becomes a little brighter in just 60 seconds.

Take 5 minutes and be on the right track to a better day. You deserve it!
